  Care Code the Product

Developed using Microsoft Visual Basic 6 Care Code® is a complete N-Tier Client/Server 32-bit component orientated Clinical Information Management & Audit system for Windows 95, 98, NT, XP and 2000. Care Code® has been designed to be flexible in its implementation, storing information in a Powerful Microsoft SQL Server 7/2000 database, with distributed Business Logic.

Care Code® has 3 core components, the main Data Repository (an SQL Server database), Business Logic and Client Access software (using COM/DCOM methodology). The Database and Business logic components combine to form Care Code® Server, and the Client Access software forms Care Code® Client . This provides maximum flexibility as the Database remains located centrally, the Business Logic can be distributed around the network (improving response times and providing redundancy) and the Client software provides thin client access to the system from anywhere on the network, whilst minimising network traffic.

Alternatively, if no network infrastructure exists, Care Code® Client software can be installed at remote sites, with its own mini version of the database and configured to export the required data in an appropriate format i.e. as an email attachment or to mobile media.

Data capture is simplified through a combination of portable "Bar Code Readers" and static "Touch Screen" technology, enabling the system to be used by both "mobile" and "clinic bound" personnel.

In 2001 the innovation and potential of Care Code® was recognised by the UK Government, when Iuvo were awarded a Government SMART Grant to take advantage of new technologies and integrate Palm-Top devices into the product, to complement the existing Barcode Scanners and Touch Screen capabilities. This development has now been completed and provides full bar coding with two-way data integration and access for the mobile user.

The diagram below depicts an example Trust based Care Code® Server installation.

Care Code® has been developed with Security and Flexibility in mind. Security is controlled through a combination of standard operational and product specific security features. Flexibility comes from the modular design strategy, which provides Care Code® users with the ability to choose those modules most suited to their immediate requirements, whilst providing a built in upgrade path to cater for future expansion and changes to the working environment.
